A Little Story

A friend has been recommending Neil Gaiman's Journal for ages, and I finally went and had a look. Among other things, I found this idea about a thirty second scary story, and loved the concept. (Here's a link to his story, along with some others.) I'm no Gaiman obviously, but I couldn't resist attempting to write a story that can be told in less than a minute. So here goes:

One day when I got home from work I got quite a shock.
My little daughter Eve had a new friend visiting, you see,
and they were so alike I could barely tell them apart.

A little later, Eve and her new friend got into a fight.
I had to most sternly tell her to leave.
What a horrid little girl!
I thought it would never stop
the hammering on the door
the wordless screaming
but eventually it did, of course,
and when I glanced out the window, the front porch was empty.

I went into Eve's room.
She had taken out all her old toys.
I asked if she were OK
and she told me she was just fine.
